Of a type that is rarely found in Corfu’s villages, this house boasts everything a buyer is seeking: Space for three bedrooms with additional guest space, garden, huge verandas with sea view, off-road parking, a fair degree of privacy and proximity to utilities. The house, renovated in Greek style (I.e over-modernized), is ready to occupy with all services connected, but would benefit from some reantiquation to restore some of the original character. For example, the rather dark wood lounge ceiling could be removed to expose the original beams, lightening the room and at the same time raising the low ceiling. Apart from cosmetic work, around 15,000 euros needs to be spent on minor structural repairs, mainly to the cantilevered front balcony and its effects on the rest of the property. Remedial measures have been established by a structural engineer. The property is located beside the square in the centre of the village, yet the setting is open, and it is not hemmed in by other houses. It gets the sun all day. On the road side of the house is a gated yard, with enough room to park two cars. Entry is direct into a huge living and dining room. A separate large kitchen with fitted wood cupboards and space for a table for informal dining opens from the lounge, as does a large bathroom with bath. The kitchen opens into the garden, where a large patio could be created for outside dining. A very solid timber staircase leads up to a landing area, which is large enough to accommodate a study and a sofa bed. Two bedrooms open from here (they also open onto the balcony facing the road), and on the other side a door opens onto a very extensive veranda, which runs around two sides of the house. This could be partially covered to give some shade, whilst still leaving plenty of space for sunbathing. The view is broad and open and encompasses the village rooftops to the side and in the distance the northern villages and the sea at Sidari. The garden is large and has two outhouses at the bottom. It is surrounded by other gardens. Adjoining the house at the side is a potential guest suite. We have not managed to access this yet so don’t actually know what it contains, but it seems that a bedroom and bathroom are possible. Apart from the minor structural fault, the house is in good condition and a buyer could move straight in, once the current owner removes her own possessions. Some TLC and action to re-establish the original character will result in a delightful home. The village is a lovely traditional village, quiet and with only local traffic, and with enough in the way of shops to serve everyday needs.
