France, Switzerland and Austria are ski lovers’ favourite destinations. They are attracted by affordable prices and by the possibility to try the ski runs where the most famous skiing competitions take place.
Carinthia is a fascinating Austrian region located within the Eastern Apls that is well-known for its imposing mountains and beautiful lakes.
The flow of visitors – above all from Italy – has increased thanks to low prices. Eastern and central areas are characterized by charming “chalet” architecture, while high-rise buildings are concentrated in Western area. The wide offer of low-cost flights makes the demand for winter holiday-weeks increase in the region.
Rentals in Carinthia (Austria) are affordable – they are comprised between 600 and 900 euros – but they rise in Tyrol, where Kitzbühel – one of the fanciest winter sports resort in Austria – is located. The development of winter holiday rental market is boosted by the internet that enables holidaymakers to find value-for-money offers all around the world, to see the pictures of houses/apartments/villas/chalets for rent, to compare prices and to take advantage of last-minute offers. The internet has become a fast, effective and indispensable research tool. Property-searching methods have changed according to the evolution of modern life-style. Low-cost flights to the most appealing destinations have also made the demand increase.
A similar positive trend has been reported in Val d’Isère that is located in the Rhône-Alpes region in France and hosts world-class ski resorts. The rent of an apartment here goes from 650 to 1000 euros. Renting a house for four people located close to ski resorts in Megève – Haute Savoie, France – costs from 700 to 1100 euros per week on average.
Switzerland is full of holiday resorts with charming chalets made of wood, but it is a destination chosen above all by high-budgeted holidaymakers. St Moritz is a fashionable winter destination that has a reputation for glamour and boasts fabulous views of impressive glacial peaks. Zermatt is a wonderful skiing and mountaineering resort in the upper Valais. They are both in the top 10 list of the “Best of the Alps”, but accommodation is among the most expensive in Switzerland. Prices in St Moritz range from 1000 to 1500 euros in high season for an apartment for four people, but rise up to 2000 euros in Zermatt.
European tourists who want to cross the ocean for a holiday among tremendous range of mountains usually choose Canada. Québec is an ice-skating paradise. In Montréal – a breathtaking town that is consistently rated as one of the most livable cities in the world – staying in an apartment for four people costs about 300 euros per week.
It is also worth mentioning Roberval – a lovely city on the southwestern shore of lac Saint-Jean – where houses are distributed around the ring-shaped ski run. In the British Columbia, Whistler is one of the most sustainable cities in the world due to its environment-friendly tourism development policies. Rentals start from 200 euros per night in a house for four people.
Aspen – in Colorado, USA – is the American ski resort par excellence. Here, a beautiful home with four bedrooms costs 700/750 euros per night, while the price of a luxury home in a resort is about 10 500 euros per week.
